There were some interesting developments this week. For starters, my lease is up at the end of the month and I need to decide if I want to commit to another year in my current apartments (6-month option no longer exists). I am happy with this location and with my current set up in Calgary but a year is a big commitment. Who knows what could change in a year? I realize there would still be options if I wanted to leave prematurely but nonetheless this process has jump started the wheels in my head. Often when I make plans they change and sometimes quite drastically, as in the case of my move out West. One such game changer could always be unexpected irons in the fire. I recently added one. Always exciting times and perhaps there will be more to report on this later.
But on a lighter note, this week was also quite rewarding in terms of music. I picked up a permanent gig at a venue called Gravity working sound on Friday and hosting the open mic Saturday. This will consistently add to the music fund for various future projects and even simple subsidization. I also had my best busking session ever. There was a festival in Inglewood on Saturday so I went out with my guitar for an hour before my open mic duties. I made just under $40. At the start Selina and I even had a brief collaboration.
In other news, today was probably the laziest day I’ve had in a while. I’ve been a little bit under the weather as of lately and I got wrapped up in Olympic coverage so I didn’t leave the couch for too long. I watched TV all afternoon and then had a nap following the men’s 100m final. I woke up at 5pm to the sensation of ants crawling on me (my apartment is covered with ants right now). Rather than attempt to eradicate the infestation by cleaning I decided it was better to go for a walk. I went for a stroll along the river and through Inglewood. At one point I was on a single track trail along the Bow when I came across two gentleman sitting on a picnic table. They stared at me for an inordinate amount of time as I walked by. I often have the feeling that people are staring at me so I didn’t give it too much thought. I continued another 100m and then had then used my Zen powers to detect that someone was behind me. I removed my headphones and turned around to find one of the guys from the picnic table standing behind me. The conversation went as follows.
Me – “Hey how’s it going?”
Guy – “Good. What are you up to?”
Me – “I’m just going for a little walk.”
Guy – “You have a nice body.” (Strokes my bare stomach)
Me – “Thanks”
Guy – “It’s quiet over there. Do you wanna go hang out for a bit?”
Me – “Oh I’m alright thanks. I’m just gonna keep walking here. Cheers”
And so on…
I continued on, trying to withhold my laughter. I thought he was just going to offer me drugs or something but then he went a slightly different way with it. Nice enough guy though. Not to mention, approaching people in the woods in a non-violent way and propositioning them takes balls. I felt a little bad for rejecting him. I didn’t want to be an asshole but I also really didn’t want to be an asshole. Plus, I don’t want to sound cocky but due to recent events I thought I could do better. I’ll admit I was flattered though. I guess I know how the hot girls feel when they’re at a bar.
